Town of Munster Celebrates Opening of New Golf Pro Shop and Cart Storage Facility at Centennial Park

The Town of Munster is proud to announce the completion and official opening of the new Golf Pro Shop and Cart Storage Garage at Centennial Park. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting was held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 2 p.m., marking a significant milestone for the community’s premier golf facility.

Town Council members George Shinkan, Joe Hofferth, Chuck Gardiner, Dave Nellans, and Jonathan Petersen attended the event, along with Clerk-Treasurer Wendy Mis and Park Board members Scot Pierce, Jose Gutierrez, Robyn Paulsen, and Dan Repay. The ceremony was also celebrated by project contractors and enthusiastic golfers from around the area.

The new 2,280-square-foot pro shop and 4,104-square-foot cart storage garage enhance the golfing experience at Centennial Park. Additionally, an 840-square-foot outdoor shelter was added, providing a comfortable space for golfers to relax, enjoy refreshments, and share stories from the course. To further improve amenities, 40 brand-new golf carts equipped with USB port chargers have been introduced for use this spring.

The facility’s construction incorporated 56 pilings, averaging 55 feet deep, ensuring long-term structural integrity. The total project cost was approximately $3.9 million, with CSK Architects of Schererville, Indiana, serving as the architect and Hasse Construction Company Inc. of Calumet City, Illinois, as the general contractor.

“I’m incredibly proud of the collaboration between all parties in making these new facilities a reality,” said Mark Heintz, Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Munster. “The new pro shop is now conveniently located near the first tee and driving range, allowing staff to oversee activities and provide better service, including food, drinks, and golf merchandise. The cart storage building not only protects our carts but also acts as a wind block and provides an extended shelter for driving range users on inclement days. It will also serve as a space for special events throughout the golf season.”

At a time when many area golf courses have closed, the Town of Munster continues to invest in golf as a valuable recreational opportunity for both seasoned players and beginners. Golf is a beneficial recreational activity in that it offers a low-impact, enjoyable form of exercise in a natural setting. It also provides mental stimulation, social interaction, community building, and recreational value for youth through adults.
